Olympiastadion – Hertha

E & E tour Europe

Another day, another stadium – this time, the biggest in Germany (though not the most capacity, that’s still Dortmund due to standing allowance) . . . Olympiastadion Berlin. It’s an impressive structure, built for the 1936 Olympics*.

Hertha Berlin play here in the Bundesliga, plus it has hosted various European & Champion’s League cup finals.

The stadium has an athletics track surrounding the football pitch – and hosts athletics each year. Bolt set world records for the 100 + 200m here in 2009 and they still stand.

* This was the infamous Olympics featuring Jesse Owens and Hitler, and the stadium was built around the same time as the first concentration camps, so explained our tour guide.
